A Study on Self-esteem and Anxiety of the Aged

Abstract
|
|
|
The purpose of this study was to examinee the backgrounds of the Aged and to identify self-esteem and Anxiety.
The subjects, consisting to 60 the Aged who lived at home and institutionalized at nursing home in Mok Po city.
Questionnaire survey was conducted from June 22 to June 24,1987.
The measurement tools were Rosenberg´s Self-esteem Scale and Spielberger´s Trait An-xiety Scale.
Analysis of Data was done by using Mean, S.D., ANOVA, and Pearson Correlation coefficient.
The results of study were as follows:
1. In regard to relationship between general characteristics and self-esteem, the result showed significant different in age, economic status and resident place. The subjects who showed the higher degree of self-esteem were younger group, upper economic class and home living group.
2. In regard to relationship between general characteristics and Anxiety, the result showed significant difference in sex, age and economic status. The subjects who showed the higher degree of anxiety were female group, older group and lower economic class.
3. There is no significant correlation between self-esteem and Anxiety.
